Grasslands National Park, SK, Canada

We left Glacier National Park on Thursday morning and drove back over the border to Saskatchewan in Canada. The drive through Montana and Saskatchewan went through the barest landscape we have ever seen. There was absolutely nothing except fields and a few farmhouses.

Right after crossing the border, we were invaded by grasshoppers. The road was full of them. Because of all the grasshoppers, there were also lots of birds on the road. It was almost impossible to avoid them. For some reason, instead of flying away, they sometimes flew right into the car. Once when we opened the window for just a few seconds, two grasshoppers jumped through the window and onto our bed. After some struggle, we were eventually able to catch both of them. When we arrived in Val Marie, our car looked horrible!

In Val Marie, we stayed at The Convent Inn. It used to be a high school run by Catholic nuns. Then a family bought it and restored the building into a bed & breakfast.

In the evening, we visited Grasslands National Park. We did a short 1.5-hour hike and then drove around the park until the sun went down. On our drive back, a lot of animals, including rabbits, deer, and coyotes, ran across the road.

The next day, we left Canada again and drove, for the last time, back over the border to the United States. We spent two full days driving until we arrived in Minneapolis on Sunday. We visited Mount Zion Temple, where my great-grandfather used to be a Rabbi. They were having a garage sale, so we went in. I promised Grandma I would tell somebody who I was, so I told the man working at the entrance. He seemed excited to meet me and showed us the dedicated Margolis Hall. There were also lots of old pictures of him hanging on the walls.

In the evening, we left Minneapolis and drove to our Airbnb in Winona. Today is another work day, and tomorrow we will continue driving east. Our next stop is Cleveland Ohio!
