Boston, MA, USA

We arrived in Boston on Sunday, May 29th. Harry and Maya picked us up, and we stayed at their (already sold) house. The next day, we ate an amazing breakfast with Bagels, Salmon, Avocado, Cream Cheese, and fruit.

Harry and Susan gave me their van (Toyota Sienna 2005), and we spent the remaining days in Boston trying to register the vehicle correctly. First, we had to get US car insurance that accepts a Swiss driver’s license. We were able to find one a few days earlier and bought quite expensive insurance for six months. Next, we had to call the insurance company and have them fill out the vehicle registration form and stamp it. On Tuesday, we had our RMV appointment to register the car. We learned that to register the van, we needed an official translation of my driver’s license, which we didn’t have. We spent the next hour searching for official translators who could do the job immediately. After several unsuccessful calls, we found somebody who was able to do it within an hour. We e-mailed her a photo of my license and drove to her house. When we arrived, she had the translation ready for us, and we had 25 more minutes before the RMV closed. We drove to the nearest RMV, and I practically had to beg them to take me without an appointment. Luckily, the woman at the counter was nice and let me in. 30 min after the RMV officially closed, I was able to register the van and receive a new license plate number!

That evening, we went to a restaurant with Harry, Susan, and Maya and pre-celebrate my birthday and the successful registration of the van!
